While 43 people will receive the awards on Monday, the rest of the awardees, including actors Rajinikanth and Priyanka Chopra and tennis player Sania Mirza, will be given the honour at a separate function to be held next month.
National Award winning filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda of “I Am Kalam” fame, who has been chosen for the prestigious Padma Shri, said the honour will inspire him to work in the direction of making more films on the country’s pertinent issues.
This year’s list of Padma awards contain names of 10 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 83 Padma Shri awardees of the total 112.
Among the ‘Padma Shri’ awardees from the state, include veteran folk artist Bhikhudan Gadhvi, Dahyabhai Shastri and Dr Sudhir V Shah.
Eminent personalities from across the fields of sports, entertainment and public service are to be awarded the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri awards.
“We studied the proposal and sent a recommendation to the MHA,” said Mahesh Sharma.
Yadav refused to single out names and even added that some of them may have deserved the awards but added.
Renowned Assamese Filmmaker Jahnu Barua and computer scientist Vijay Bhatkar were given the Padma Bhushan.
Cinema icon Dilip Kumar was conferred with Padma Vibhushan by President Pranab Mukherjee on April 8.
