N D Tiwari, who joined the Congress in 1963, is the only Indian politician to have served as chief minister of two states, Uttar Pradesh and later Uttarakhand.
Sources at Max Hospital in Saket said the condition of 91-year-old ND Tiwari is serious and he is being kept under observation in the Intensive Care Unit.
“Circumstances made him (Tiwari) join Congress. Had he been with the SP, he would have been a big name among socialist leaders,” said Mulayam Singh.
The protests had been peaceful until the violence of April 14 leading to police firing. The agitation had begun last December following efforts to revive the dormant project.
“The tragic part is that these people who surrounded him used the infirmities — which come with old age — against both me and him. “
Speaking of her “very courteous” husband, Ujjwala said the decision on marriage was taken only this Sunday.
Rajnath, who went to Tiwari’s residence here this morning, touched his feet and sought his blessings.
Shekhar had filed the paternity suit claiming that the Congress leader and 67-year-old Ujjwala Sharma were his biological parents.

At a press conference, Tiwari patted Shekhar, and spoke about his relationship with Ujjwala’s father.
Congress leader had so far refused to settle the case out of court.
Seeking to settle the matter peacefully, the proposal to settle the matter “amicably” outside the court was put forth by Tiwari on February 19.
A youth,claiming to be biological son of N D Tiwari,today moved the Delhi High Court for launch of contempt proceedings against the veteran Congress leader for allegedly not paying him Rs 25,000 as fine and expenses incurred by him on Tiwari’s DNA test as per the court’s order.
Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday refused to comment on allegations of corruption levelled by Arvind Kejriwal against various persons,saying they were one-sided and deserved no importance.
