Mahira Khan is a Pakistani actor and model is set to make her Bollywood debut in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees that releases in January 2017. Before signing on a Hindi film, Mahira had already become a household name in India due to her television shows which were aired on Zee's channel Zindagi. Her most popular serial on both sides of the border remains Humsafar opposite Fawad Khan. Mahira was born in Karachi and entered the showbiz at an early age. She started her career as a VJ, until she made her acting debut in 2011 critically acclaimed Pakistani film Bol, which ranks among the highest-grossing Urdu movies ever till date. Her Pakistani television shows are Shehr-e-Zaat, Sadqay Tumhare and Bin Roye Ansoo. Her celebrity chat show TUC The Lighter Side of Life has seen the biggest names in Pakistani entertainment coming over as guests. Mahira's other films include Manto, Bin Roye and Ho Mann Jahaan. Mahira found herself under fire when India's MNS sought a ban on Pakistani artistes working in Bollywood. Her debut Indian film Raees also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub. Mahira was listed tenth in a 'Sexiest Asian Women' poll done by a British newspaper. She was also called Pakistan's sexiest woman in 2015. The 32-year-old actor got married to businessman Ali Askari in 2007. But the two got divorced in 2015. They have a son together.
Bollywood celebs either avoid speaking on political stuff publically, or prefer a “no comments” stance. And if nothing else, they record a video in the close confines of their homes and post it on social media.
Even as theatre owners in Pakistan have decided to lift the self-imposed suspension on Indian movies, the MNS today ( December 19) said its opposition to featuring Pakistani actors in the films made in India will continue.
Even as Raees makers deny any resemblance, there are indications that Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the film takes inspiration from gangster Abdul Latif who was reportedly involved in Mumbai bomb blasts.
Raees and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil had landed themselves in trouble after the Raj Thackeray-led MNS called for a ban of all films featuring Pakistani actors post the Uri attack. But Mahira Khan is very much there in the Raees trailer.
