As of now, the JD(U) ranks sixth on the basis of its strength in the Upper House. Of 13 front-row seats with the non-NDA parties, five are held by the Congress and one each by the CPI-M, JD(U), BSP, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, Biju Janata Dal, NCP, and AIADMK.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said Yadav has every right to take his own decision as to where his loyalties lie, adding the decision to form an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was made with the consent of the entire party.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament ends Thursday and in the event of Yadav’s removal as JD(U)’s leader in the Upper House, the party will have time till Winter Session to find a replacement. JD(U) has 10 members in Rajya Sabha — MPs Ali Anwar Ansari and M P Veerendra Kumar have sided with Yadav.
