Ajinkya Rahane on Wednesday posted a picture on his Instagram account with his wife. He would now be travelling with Indian team for their tour of Sri Lanka beginning from July 26 where they play three Tests, five ODIs and a T20I.
Returning back from the Windies tour, Rahane also claimed that the experience of leading a side gave him loads of confidence.
West Indies aggressive batsman Chris Gayle shares a great bond with the Indian players. Having been a part of the Indian Premier League, Gayle has developed a great friendship with Indian cricketers and the left-hander gave another instance of this when he hosted a team dinner for Indian side.
Ajinkya Rahane said, “This series will give me a lot of confidence especially for the ODI and shorter format. If the team management thinks I should bat at No.4 or at No.1 and 2 then I will always be giving my 100 percent on that.”
With the 2019 World Cup less than two years away, Sourav Ganguly believes Indian skipper Virat Kohli should immediately sit with Rahane and define his role in the team clearly so that a talent like him knows the road ahead clearly.
Team India continues to replicate its Test success in the limited overs format as they trounce West Indies in the third ODI by 93 runs. MS Dhoni once again collected records and garnered personal milestones in Antigua.
Back among the runs, Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane insists that his hunger to perform and deliver has kept him motivated. With 237 runs, Rahane is the highest run-scorer in the ongoing India’s tour of West Indies.
India’s strength remains batting and openers have continued to deliver for the Men in Blue in the shorter formats. In absence of Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane is doing a fine job with Shikhar Dhawan.
Captain Virat Kohli said after the match, “Rahane has been a part of the ODI set-up for a while and we all felt he had a great potential at the top of the order. He is always there as the third opening batsman.
West Indies fell 105 runs short of a target of 311 that India had set for them. Jason Holder bowled the final over of the Indian innings in which he bowled three no-balls, two of which were above the waist full-tosses. Jonathan Carter had to bowl the final ball.
Indian captain Virat Kohli said that the team may consider giving chances to some of the players in the third ODI against West Indies. India had walked to a 105-run win over West Indies in the second ODI.
While the hundred might not guarantee Ajinkya Rahane any permanency in the eleven, he has done enough to repay the selectors’ faith. Rahane ended up scoring the third century of his 75-match ODI career that stretches back six years now.
Ajinkya Rahane was part of a strong top order performance from the Indian batsmen. He first put up a 114-run opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan before making 97 for the second wicket with Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli-led Indian team will take on West Indies in the first ODI match of the five-match series on Friday. In absence of rested Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane gets a good opportunity to cement his spot in the ODI set-up.
Former New Zealand captain and IPL side Rising Pune Supergiant’s coach Stephen Fleming believes India have the edge over Pakistan when the two teams meet in the highly-anticipated game at Edgbaston in the ICC Champions Trophy.
