`The participants unanimously called upon the party’s national vice president Rahul Gandhi to take command of the party at the national level,’ said Ravinder Sharma, Congress’ chief spokesperson in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ashok Choudhary had been accused of trying to split the party in favour of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar JD(U) after disintegration of Grand Alliance. He had, however, dismissed the allegation as “part of the conspiracy to show me the door”.
He said it was time vice-president Rahul Gandhi took over as Congress president. “The sooner he takes over, the faster the Congress will improve,” Brar said.
Sources in the party said the exercise would begin from April, along with other activities, including padyatras in every district, on issues like the Food Security Act and MGNREGA.
However, Gandhi, who is harping on the “Bihar model” to regain the Congress base is confronted with a bigger challenge of putting his own house in order.
Earlier this week, Nirupam was served a showcause notice by AICC’s disciplinary action committee headed by A K Anthony this week.
The senior party leaders from UP who met AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry in Delhi Saturday to discuss the strategy for the polls also demanded that a chief ministerial candidate should be named.
Both Amarinder and incumbent state president Partap Singh Bajwa’s camps denied any such development.
GPCC general secretaries Nishith Vyas and Dipak Amin also spoke on the occasion.
When former union minister Bharatsinh Solani had taken over the reigns of the party in March this year, he had gone for a small-size of the party unit in the state.
State leaders, however, say that local leaders were behind the move.
The party also criticised Modi for telling NRIs in Shanghai that “earlier, you felt ashamed of being born Indian” and “now you feel proud to represent the country”.
